During the 90’s of the past century, when the democratic changes in Bulgaria began, Daniel Dinev presented his first independent exhibition. Straight from his first appearances he became well known from both the public and the art critics. “The work and style of the young painter show qualities that identify him as a talented artist with a good technique and a particular eye for color”, said in his positive and eloquent valuation Maximilian Kirov, a prominent Bulgarian art expert who sadly passed away. He was of great support to Daniel and encouraged him to develop his talent and stick around the scene, exhibiting his work.

Personal life

Daniel Dinev is born on the 25th of august 1965. He lives and works in Sofia, Bulgaria. 30 years of his life he spends inseparable from the muse of his life. She passes away tragically during September 2018. Their marriage gives them a daughter, Maria, who has a bachelor’s degree in Cultural studies and currently studies Cultural anthropology in Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

Daniel Dinev says:

My way so far was long, it was full of pain, disappointment, much love and happiness from the pure touch with Art. All these years, I was obsessed by the idea that I want to create Art, which must provoke human thoughts and sensibility, Art that can show different worlds and realities, Art that can make you see above your sight – to see the invisible images of your imagination and subconsciousness. And I did it because of the impulse and the essence of everything meaningful in life – the idea to do the most desirable thing – to create Art.

I have been accomplishing my childhood dream for a very long time. And this dream was to learn how to recreate the images from my dreams and visions. All this cost lots of efforts and hard work searching my own creative improvement. I set myself difficult tasks in order to better and upgrade my technical skills experimenting on different materials and painting techniques.

Very often, a spectator might see the twisting and interaction of different worlds, which create the feeling of a harmonic unity, despite of their different nature. This unity is in the “fog” of my unconsciousness and I materialized it over the skin of my paintings the way I remembered it. Quite often, the spectators of my paintings see in them something of their own, which has not been part of my preliminary thoughts and design. But this is exactly the reason Why I adore Art – it gives people limitless possibilities for interpretation. One of the perennial elements in my works is the specific sensation of an after and an outer world space, which however, does not scare the audience with its dark tone dimensions, but gives a shelter with the friendly gesture of its violet-bluish nuances – the same that the sky leaves to us as a gift after rain, at dawn or at a magical sunset. The feeling of security is decoded within the greening grass that we step on. The nebulas – products of the troubles in our lives, find their secure place in the very heart of the Universe, and this gives birth to the happiness in yellow with the beginning of each new day – this is where I want and hope to lead my spectators to. It is towards this overflow between real and surreal, earthly and alien, natural and cosmic, spontaneous and harmonic that the objects from my dreams depicted in my paintings move.
